Flash flood risk for NSW South Coast

Some windy and very wet weather looks set to affect the southern half of the New South Wales coast this weekend as an east coast low starts to spin up.

At this stage, moderate to heavy rainfall with totals of 50 to 100 mm is expected in parts of the region this weekend. Locally heavier falls closer to 150 mm or higher are also a possibility in part of this region if the low develops close enough to the coast. This may cause flash flooding in some areas but the risk of major river flooding is currently considered low due to the relatively drier soils in the region at the moment.

Wind gusts up to 50 to 70km/h are also forecast to develop along parts of the coastal fringe in this region with locally stronger gusts possible in a few of the more exposed coastal spots. These winds carry some local damage potential.

The wet and windy conditions are then expected to start easing on Monday.

While the heavier rain and stronger winds are heavily dependent on the low forming close enough to the coast and the likelihood of widespread severe weather associated with this event is currently considered low, please keep an eye on updated forecasts and warnings for the latest information.
