South East Queensland shivers through its coldest morning of the year

If you woke up this morning, put on a singlet and shorts, and went running, I hope you ran back to your bedroom! Parts of SEQ shivered through their coldest morning of 2024!

A large, slow-moving low in the Tasman Sea, combined with a high-pressure system over inland Australia, helped filter frigid air north across the region overnight.

Brisbane dropped to a chilly 6.3°C just after 6:30am this morning, making it the coldest morning for 2024 and the coldest morning since August 2022. Across at the Brisbane Airport, it dropped to just 2.7°C, marking the airport's coldest morning since falling to 2.6°C in July 2014!

Many other towns also woke up to their coldest morning for 2024 and, in some instances, the coldest for many years.
-          Canungra dropped to -2.3
-          Amberley -1.7° (coldest morning in 4 years)
-          Sunshine Coast 1.6° (coldest morning in 6 years)
-          Dalby -4.0°C (coldest morning in 5 years)

A similar pattern is expected over the coming days; however, winds will swing a little more southerly, helping to increase the overnight minimums by one or two degrees.
